Gala Concerts in the Danube Palace/Pesti Vigadó

The imposing Pesti Vigadó on the Pest bank of the Danube built in the 19. century witnessed some grandiose balls and concerts.

The building was destroyed in World War II but it was nicely restored in previous years.

The Vigadó currently hosts

  • Permanent and temporary exhibitions,
  • Large-scale concerts and
  • Other cultural performances.

The lookout terrace on the VI. floor offers a marvelous vista of the Buda Castle and the Gellért Hill. It is the place to be when you seek cultural entertainment in Budapest.

The charming neo-Baroque Palace, Duna Palota in the city centre also has a great concert hall where you can enjoy a unique concert by the Danube Symphony Orchestra.

Concerts start at 20.00 at both locations, and have two 45-minute parts with a break in between.

Both locations can be easily reached

  • by walk from downtown or
  • by tram 2, Széchenyi tér stop, or
  • any of the three metro lines stopping at Deák Ferenc tér metro station (M1, M2, M3 metro lines)

From there you can get to both venues by a short walk.

Classical Music Combined with Hungarian Folk Music

The prestigious ensemble of the Danube Symphony Orchestra of 60 professional musicians was formed more than 50 years ago.

Their repertoire is quite colourful and includes a wide range of musical styles.

Now you can listen to classical pieces performed in unconventional way: symphony orchestra accompanied by a Hungarian folk instrument called cimbalom (hammered dulcimer).
